Size and colour: the Facebook comment reply template
"What size?" and "what colours do you have?" are the two questions that decide whether someone buys today. This template sends the size chart as an image in Messenger, because a chart pasted as text is unreadable on a phone.
Comparing, not browsing. They want a measurement or a swatch before committing, and a link to a website they have to open is friction they will not accept.

When this fires
Paste these into the rule’s keyword list. Any one of them matching is enough — keywords are an OR list, not an AND list.

How Mentbot reads them
- Matching is a plain substring test, not a whole-word test. A keyword matches anywhere inside the comment — which is why the list below matters.
- Case is ignored, and text is NFKC-folded first, so SALE matches sale and full-width or styled characters still match.
- Thai, emoji and any other script work the same way: the comment is compared as text, with no language detection.
- Leading and trailing spaces in a keyword are trimmed, and a blank keyword row never matches anything.
The public reply
Add these as separate reply variants on the rule. Mentbot picks one at random each time a comment matches, so the same post does not fill up with one identical sentence.
- Variant 1

- Variant 2

- Variant 3

{comment} is replaced with the commenter’s own text. It is the only token Mentbot substitutes — there is no {name} or {page}.
The Messenger DM
The private reply Mentbot sends to the same commenter. On Facebook this is a Messenger private reply to the comment, so it only works while Facebook’s reply window for that comment is open.
Hi! You asked: "{comment}" Here's the size chart. Measure across the chest with the garment flat and match the nearest row — if you're between sizes, go up. Colours in stock: black, cream, sage, navy. Which one shall we set aside?
Settings to turn on
The four switches on the rule, and what this scenario needs from each.
| Setting | This template | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Reply once | On On. The chart only needs sending once per person per post. | Answers each commenter once per post for this rule — and an attempt Facebook refused still counts as that once. The same person commenting again on the same post gets nothing more from this rule, but a different rule can still answer them, and the same rule answers them again on a different post. |
| Mention the commenter | Off | Puts an @mention of the commenter at the front of the public reply. It applies to the public reply only, never to the Messenger message. |
| Hide the comment | Off Off. Sizing questions under a post answer the next three people who were about to ask the same thing. | Hides the comment once this rule has answered it. The author and their friends still see it; everyone else does not. Separate from your Page’s moderation filters, which run earlier. |
| Like the comment | On | Likes the comment from the Page, straight after the public reply goes out. |
Scope
Where the rule is allowed to fire.
The rule runs on every post but only on comments containing one of its keywords.
Keywords on every post — if you sell one product line with one chart. If you sell several with different charts, see the limits below: this becomes one post-scoped rule per product instead.
When two rules could both answer
Exactly one rule answers a comment. Mentbot ranks every rule that qualifies and runs the most specific one; the rest are recorded as outranked, not run.
- A rule limited to a list of posts wins first — even if it also has keywords.
- Then a rule with a hashtag or keywords.
- Then the catch-all with neither.
- If two rules tie on that rank, the older one wins. There is no priority field to set.
What will not match
Comments a seller expects this rule to catch, and does not. Each one follows from the matching rules above.
| The comment | Why it does not fire |
|---|---|
| "How big is it?" | No listed keyword appears in it. Substring matching does not paraphrase, so every phrasing you want caught has to be in the list as text. |
| "S?" or "M?" | A one-letter keyword is not usable. "s" is a substring of nearly every comment in English, so adding it would make this rule fire on everything — and nothing in the product stops you from doing it. Leave single letters out. |
| Someone posting a photo of themselves asking what size they are | Nothing reads the image. If your image moderation filter is on, the comment is hidden before any rule sees it. |
| A comment that is only a sticker | A sticker carries no text, so a rule with keywords never matches it. |
What Mentbot will not do here
Stated plainly, so you do not build a workflow on top of something that is not there.
- A rule sends one Messenger reply, so it carries one size chart. A Page selling three product lines with three different charts needs three rules, each scoped to that line's posts — and post-scoped rules outrank keyword rules, so they will win cleanly.
- Mentbot does not know which variant is left. It can send the colour list; it cannot tell you the sage one sold out this morning.
- The image attachment on a public comment reply works on Facebook but not on Instagram, where a reply can carry text only.

Questions
Can the size chart go in the public reply instead of the DM?
On a Facebook Page, yes — a public comment reply can carry an image attachment. It is still usually better in Messenger, because the DM is where the sale continues. On Instagram the public reply is text-only, so the chart has to go in the private reply there.
How do I handle different charts for different products?
One rule per product, each scoped to that product's posts. A rule with a post list beats a keyword rule automatically, so your general sizing rule can stay switched on as the fallback for everything else.
Does the rule know what size the customer needs?
No. It sends the chart and asks. There is no parsing of the comment beyond checking whether a keyword is in it — the only thing Mentbot does with the comment text is paste it back via {comment}.
Will it match Thai or Filipino sizing questions?
If you list them. The matcher compares text without any language detection, so "ไซส์" and "anong kulay" work exactly like the English keywords once they are in the list.
