Price questions: the Facebook comment reply template

"How much?" is the most common comment a selling Page gets, and the one that costs you the most when nobody answers it for four hours. This template answers in public and sends the details in Messenger, from one rule.

Someone wants to buy and does not want to ask twice. They will scroll on if the comment sits unanswered, and they usually will not open Messenger first.

When this fires

Paste these into the rule’s keyword list. Any one of them matching is enough — keywords are an OR list, not an AND list.

  • how much
  • howmuch
  • how much po
  • price
  • pricelist
  • magkano
  • presyo
  • ราคา
  • เท่าไหร่
  • cost

How Mentbot reads them

  • Matching is a plain substring test, not a whole-word test. A keyword matches anywhere inside the comment — which is why the list below matters.
  • Case is ignored, and text is NFKC-folded first, so SALE matches sale and full-width or styled characters still match.
  • Thai, emoji and any other script work the same way: the comment is compared as text, with no language detection.
  • Leading and trailing spaces in a keyword are trimmed, and a blank keyword row never matches anything.

The public reply

Add these as separate reply variants on the rule. Mentbot picks one at random each time a comment matches, so the same post does not fill up with one identical sentence.

  1. Variant 1

Hi! Sent you the full price list in Messenger 💬 Check your message requests if you don't see it.

Short on purpose. The work happens in the DM.

  2. Variant 2

Thanks for asking! Prices are in your inbox now — reply there and we'll sort you out today.

  3. Variant 3

It's in your Messenger 📩 We've sent the price and what's in stock right now.

{comment} is replaced with the commenter’s own text. It is the only token Mentbot substitutes — there is no {name} or {page}.

The Messenger DM

The private reply Mentbot sends to the same commenter. On Facebook this is a Messenger private reply to the comment, so it only works while Facebook’s reply window for that comment is open.

Hi! You asked "{comment}" — here's our current price list: • Item A — $19 • Item B — $24 • Bundle of both — $38 Shipping is $5 flat, free over $50. Want us to reserve one?

Settings to turn on

The four switches on the rule, and what this scenario needs from each.

SettingThis templateWhat it does
Reply onceOn One price quote per person per post. If they ask again on the same post, they wanted a human.Answers each commenter once per post for this rule — and an attempt Facebook refused still counts as that once. The same person commenting again on the same post gets nothing more from this rule, but a different rule can still answer them, and the same rule answers them again on a different post.
Mention the commenterOffPuts an @mention of the commenter at the front of the public reply. It applies to the public reply only, never to the Messenger message.
Hide the commentOff Leave it off. A visible "how much?" with a fast reply under it is social proof; hiding it makes the post look dead.Hides the comment once this rule has answered it. The author and their friends still see it; everyone else does not. Separate from your Page’s moderation filters, which run earlier.
Like the commentOn A like is the cheapest acknowledgement there is, and it goes out straight after the reply.Likes the comment from the Page, straight after the public reply goes out.

Scope

Where the rule is allowed to fire.

Keywords, on every post

The rule runs on every post but only on comments containing one of its keywords.

Keywords on every post. Price questions land on whatever you posted last, so a post list would need editing every time you post.

When two rules could both answer

Exactly one rule answers a comment. Mentbot ranks every rule that qualifies and runs the most specific one; the rest are recorded as outranked, not run.

  1. A rule limited to a list of posts wins first — even if it also has keywords.
  2. Then a rule with a hashtag or keywords.
  3. Then the catch-all with neither.
  4. If two rules tie on that rank, the older one wins. There is no priority field to set.

What will not match

Comments a seller expects this rule to catch, and does not. Each one follows from the matching rules above.

The commentWhy it does not fire
"Hw mch?"Matching is literal. There is no fuzzy matching, no spell correction and no stemming — a typo you have not listed is a typo that gets no reply. Add the misspellings your customers actually type.
A comment that is only 💰 or 👀An emoji-only comment is ordinary text, but none of the keywords above is an emoji — add 💰 as one if your buyers use it. If your emoji-only moderation filter is on, the comment is hidden before any rule runs.
A screenshot of your own post with no captionThere is no text to match, and nothing reads the image. If the image moderation filter is on, the comment is hidden before rules run at all.
"How much is shipping?" — if you also run a shipping ruleBoth rules qualify and both are keyword rules, so they tie on specificity and the older one wins. Whichever rule you created first will answer it. Scope one of them to a post list if you need to force the other.

What Mentbot will not do here

Stated plainly, so you do not build a workflow on top of something that is not there.

  • Mentbot does not read a price list, a catalogue or a spreadsheet. The reply is the text you saved, and it stays that text until you edit it — a price change means editing the rule.
  • It cannot quote a price for a specific item, because it does not know which item the commenter means. That is what the DM is for.

Cost at your comment volume

Rules are not metered separately — you pay for comments handled per day across all your Pages, and every plan includes every feature. Prices come straight from the pricing page.

Questions

Should I put the price in the public reply or only in the DM?

Put at least a range in public. Buyers trust a Page that answers in the open, and a comment thread full of "PM sent" reads like something to avoid. The DM is where the full list, the variants and the order link go.

Will everyone who asks get the Messenger message?

Everyone Facebook lets us message. Mentbot sends a private reply to the comment; if Facebook refuses — an old comment, a closed window — the failure is recorded on that interaction rather than swallowed, so you can see it happened.

Can one rule answer in both English and Thai?

Yes. Keywords are an OR list and the matcher does not care what script the text is in, so "how much", "magkano" and "ราคา" can live in one rule. The reply, though, is one message — if you want a Thai reply for Thai comments, that is a second rule with only the Thai keywords, and it will tie with this one on specificity, so create it first.

Does answering price questions automatically look robotic?

It does if there is one reply. Save two or three variants — Mentbot picks one at random per comment, so the thread under a busy post does not show the same sentence twelve times.
